100 years

When I began training to become a Church of Scotland minister in 1988, one of my first lecturers was Bishop Lesslie Newbigin. He came as a visiting lecturer to Glasgow University for one term. His lectures were based on his book, "The gospel in a pluralist society" which is well worth reading. At that time I had no realisation of what an eminent man he was, nor of the influence his teaching would have on the way the Church does Mission today. Lesslie Newbigin would have been 100 this week. I'm grateful for the opportunity I had to learn from him, and 21 years later the impact of his life and teaching still shape a great deal of way that I try to live my life within Christian community.
