Communion

This morning we shared in communion. During the sharing of the sacrament we sang BEHOLD THE LAMB. What a beautiful songs with such strong lyrics. Here is a thought provoking post from Sally which echoes a number of questions I am grappling with in my mind in terms of the relationship between worship services, preaching and discipleship.

I am following BIAY and hope that many other people are too, especially younger people. Jonathan's daily commentaries on the readings are superb and explains things simply and succinctly.

Well worth the reading.

A propos teaching/preaching - is it not the case that if we were to preach systematically, questions adn issues would be dealt with over time. Also, if the preacher is faithful to God's leading and to the text, my understanding is that the Holy Spirit can deal with each listener's heart and mind and impress His truth on each one. We shouldn't really need a question box in this case. Specific issues can still be dealt with as they arise - such as Stephen' Hutchison's response to the Assisted Suicide Bill, amongst others.

It's also possible that the Holy Spirit could use the questions being raised as a basis for the teaching at a variety of different levels, including preaching, small groups or meetings such as the one recently led by Stephen. I don't think that asking folk to share their questions can do any harm, and it may lead to some very helpful insights for ourselves as a church.I will try and reflect further on this over the coming weeks.
