PROVERBS OF CHOICE!

I'm hoping that I am going to get a better response than two, to my request about proverbs on Sunday. Maybe the response reflects the true impact of a sunday sermon!

Proverbs 9 v10 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." One of my favourite parts of Job is chapter 28 where he asks where can wisdom be found? The chapter finishes with v28 "And he said to man, the fear of the Lord-that is wisdom and to shun evil is understanding." I feel this is saying to us we should seek God, follow him, strive to place him first in all things and in all ways and this is wisdom! Dorcas.

I have been enjoying a collection of verses and meditations by Eugene Peterson, the translator of the Message bible. It so happened that the verses this week have also been from Proverbs.
Proverbs 1v7 "Start with God- the first step in learning is bowing down to God;
only fools thumb their noses at such wisdom and learning." (the Message)
So often we get absorbed in our lives. Our prayers and songs turn inward. God is interested in us. We live our lives before Him and He knows; but we actually need to lift our gaze. In our efforts, pursuits and prayers we must start with God. I need to be reminded of this everyday. Tonight I was listening to some new music by Robin Mark on "Year of Grace"- I was struck that the sentiment of almost all these worship songs reflected Gods Holiness and Sovereignty. Kevin

I've just been reading Proverbs 22 and v6 jumped out- 'teach a child to use the right path and when he is older he will remain on it. I found it helpful as I have spent this week doing battle with the IRA over their use of 15 rated film footage with Katie's class of 12 yr olds. As our kids get older and I have less control over their day, I am struggling to 'let go and let God'.
Further down the passage though, it says (v15 'A youngster's heart is filled with rebellion, but punishment will drive it out of him'. That one sure didn't work for me! As with so many passages in the bible, I think, can I take it or leave it?

I found helpful as I have spent a lot of energy this week doing battle with the IRA, trying to persuade them not to show Katie's (12 yr old) class film footage that is not recommended for under 15s. In fact as our kids get older, I struggle to 'let go and let God', as we become less and less in control of how they spend their day!
But further down the passage comes verse 15- 'A youngster's heart is filled with rebellion, but punishment will drive it out of him.' As with many parts of the bible, I wonder can I take it or leave it?

Proverbs chapter 14 verses 26 & 27

He who fears the Lord has a secure fortress,
and for his children it will be a refuge.

The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life,
turning a man from the snares of death. Marlene

Proverbs 16 verse 3
"commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans wil succeed".
and
Proverbs 16 verse 9
In his heart a man plans his course, but the lord determines his steps.

As I have gone though lifes journey, to date, I have always known gods present every step of the way.
Psalm 139 is also significant for me
