Here is news of an exciting new initiative starting in Inverness.
Dear parents/guardians and youth leaders
Re: Inverness Pray Play Say (PPS) group
For those of you who are new to Christians in Sport, these monthly PPS groups exist all over the UK and are designed for young Christian sports players, from across a region, to meet together and to be supported and equipped to represent Christ and make him known in the world of sport. For more information on CIS activities in Scotland please check the link below: http://www.christiansinsport.org.uk/main/connect-get-involved/scotland
What is the purpose of a Pray Play Say group?Key volunteers from Christians in Sport’s youth department host the evening which is designed to:
Equip – During the first hour of a typical meeting, through using the ‘Pray, Play, Say… The Youth Way’ book as a guideline, young people will be taught from the Bible and have time to pray together for friends who aren’t Christians. Encourage – A source of encouragement once a month with like-minded young people. It will be an opportunity for your young people to make friends and to grow together in their faith and representation of Jesus. Excel – Half of the evening will be given over to playing competitive team sport. We will enjoy some quality sports action together as we learn to play in a way that honours God.
Dates for school year 2009-2010:All regular groups take place on Thursday evenings at Millburn Academy (Diriebught Road, Inverness, IV2 3QR) from 7.30-9.30pm. Outreach events will be held at an alternative location (more details to follow). The target age group is secondary school age (1st-6th year).
September 17th
October 29th
December 3rd
January 28th
March 11th
April 17th - One Day Sports Plus Camp, Auchterarder Sports Facilities
June 10th
July 11th-16th – Sports Plus Camp, Loretto School, Musselburgh
Young people should come dressed to play sport, bring a bible, £2 and the attached parent consent form completed.
Where do the outreach events fit in?The world of sport is a tough environment for young people to communicate the good news of Jesus to their friends. The sports outreach events are designed to encourage an evangelistic outlook for the young people that attend the regular Thursday group, while providing them with an opportunity to invite friends/team-mates to a welcoming and fun environment in which the gospel will be clearly and relevantly presented.More information?Contact Matt Alexander (Group Leader) on 07531717337, malexander84@googlemail.com or Kirsten Ross (Scottish National Coordinator for Christians in Sport) on 07921 057825, kirsten@christiansinsport.org.uk
