So what about euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide?

We are continually being confronted by the issues of euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide (PAS). Margo MacDonald MSP recently presented a television documentary about this, and has now launched her consultation paper, in the hope that a Bill will be passed by the Scottish Parliament to legalise euthanasia and PAS. Opinion polls suggest that such legislation would be favoured by the majority in our society. Is that what you think?

On Thursday 26th February at 7.30pm in the Church, Dr Stephen Hutchison will give a presentation about the proposals and about what happens elsewhere in the world where these actions are legal. Most people hold strong views on all this, and a significant part of the evening will be available for discussion.

It's an issue that gives me great cause for concern. Our family circumstances will be frighteningly impacted by the legislation being changed. I have watched the various programs recently aired and my immediate response to them is that they fail to report on the very successful management of end of life experience at places like the Highland Hospice or the Macmillan nurse service.
It is a difficult issue for anyone to seriously think about, but I urge everyone to do that before this legislation gets through due to lack of challenge. It could potentially affect anyone, after all, none of us knows what a day will bring forth Prov: 27 v 1.
